Why am I still single? : I’m too much of a romantic πŸŒΉ

Here’s the funny thing, I didn’t grow up seeing mommy and daddy being lovey dovey, there weren’t forehead kisses in the morning, or I love you’s before going to work or midnight giggles before sleeping, there wasn’t even a dad. So my being a romantic comes from a place that even I don’t know. I didn’t read novels either, I hated reading. I found it boring to sit for hours with a book, now I’m completely in love with reading, I guess reality had to get so bad that I’d rather be lost for hours in fiction.

Despite the loveless and romance free reality and which I grew up in, love and romance is precisely the one thing I know will set me free.

I believe in love at first sight, yes I believe you can see someone and just know at your core.

I believe in instant connections

I believe there are people you meet and speak and it’s like you’ve always known each other and time just flies, hours go by and you think it’s just been minutes

I believe you feel butterflies when you’re in love

I believe that first kiss with your love would leave you weak in knees

I believe in being flustered around them

I believe meet cutes exist

I believe in kissing under the stars

I believe kissing on new year’s eve means you’ll be with them all through the year

I think sunsets are crazy romantic and so are beaches and cold starry breezy nights

I believe in elaborate romantic love professions

I believe love is electric

I believe love is magnetic, pulling two lovers together

I believe we all have soulmates

I believe some people are destined to be together

I believe true love never truly ends

I believe love is eternal

I believe in all the profundities of love.

Am I stupid for believing that? Probably, but I’d rather be hopeful stupid than hopeless wise.

And common we all love a good love story! πŸ˜‰

  1. There’s a great line in Richard Bach’s “Illusions” – Your friends will know you better in the first minute you meet than your acquaintances will know you in a thousand years.
As for being a romantic, I think it’s genetic. Or chemical. Or both. Because children of reasonable, or unreasonable but stolid parents end up staring out the window dreaming dreams of how it should be. Reading a lot of happy stuff as a child helps, though, but is not imperative.

    1. Well said, I can’t but agree
“staring out the window dreaming about how it should be” I did that, literally.
In the end, all our experiences make us into the individuals we are now, I think I turned out pretty decent.

PS that line is officially my favorite, thanks for sharing it!

  2. I love this! I 100% believe in meet cutes and I always ask every couple I meet how they met each other.
As cliche as it sounds the one for you may be right under your nose.. I didn’t start dating my other half until two years after we first met.

  3. I wasn’t blind, I was looking for the wrong things. I had to scratch my ideas and wing it. Uninhabited, open minded and a blank slate is the barest exposure of yourself and I did let go of it all.

  4. I am a die hard romantic and believe in the magic of romance..there is no life for me without it….I love the freshness romance brings when it starts..it’s just magical…we can close our eyes and feel it πŸ™‚

    1. Yes Runa, you sound just like me. I’m also absolutely in love with beginnings, so much so that after reading a book I go back and read the beginning again just to feel the freshness of how it all came to be.

It’s funny how closing the eyes makes us see with our hearts.

      1. They had ale, and gin. πŸ˜‚ Bear in mind many of them descended from the Vikings. And the Romans. No wonder they’re tenacious.

War oftentimes is to boost certain economies. A very bad way to do that. Invest Dollars, not munitions.

  5. Well, I am happily married and not available, otherwise some roses, chocolates and romantic love letters might have come your way. As it is, may God stir up the heart of a worthy young suitor. One who can write.

  6. I didn’t meet the woman that made me feel every one of those emotions that you described until I was 50! I was divorced and she was widowed. We met online, talked on the phone and were married a year later. Here’s the kicker: We lived 4 states away! Our 20th is coming up in a year and some months. ‘Soulmates’ and ‘two pieces of the same cloth’ are two phrases we say frequently. My wife is reading this too…she said to tell you that you have a ‘gift of the heart – don’t lose it.’ I agree. We’ve clicked “Follow” so we can read more of your writing. It’s enjoyable and thought provoking. Good luck to you.

    1. This is the best compliment I’ve ever received! Thank you so much!

I absolutely love hearing peoples love stories and this is truly amazing. I wish you more and more anniversaries to come!

PS tell your wife that she’s officially my favorite person! Her words will forever be engraved in my heart ❀

      1. She said; ‘Thank her so much for the “warm fuzzies”!’ And let me also add my thanks, both for the warm words and the nice tribute to my wife. Have a good weekend!

  7. Song of songs 3:1-5
All night long on my bed
    I looked for the one my heart loves;
I looked for him but did not find him.
2 I will get up now and go about the city,
    through its streets and squares;
I will search for the one my heart loves.
So I looked for him but did not find him.
    3 The watchmen found me
as they made their rounds in the city.
β€œHave you seen the one my heart loves?”
4 Scarcely had I passed them
when I found the one my heart loves.
I held him and would not let him go
till I had brought him to my mother’s house,
to the room of the one who conceived me.
5 Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you
by the gazelles and by the does of the field:
Do not arouse or awaken love
    until it so desires

When in confusion the Bible is always the best place to turn to.

Sometimes I think the Bible itself is poetry, only those who possess understanding can truly understand it’s contents.

  8. I usually have pretty strong connections with people, even those that don’t like me at first. I feel like it would be easy to convince myself that it’s love, but I know that love is something that forces you into situations that you would never expect. I personally think it’s finding that diamond quality within the ruff of their exterior.
I loved your perspective though, life and love is a huge trip!

  9. yeah, like; I believe that if two persons are true lovers than they are so much in sync with each other, the distance doesn’t matter, that they can complete each other’s sentences. Also, just a look from your lover can make you go weak in the knees. ;D Your list is pretty exhaustive in itself. πŸ™‚
