Why Am I Still Single? : Too Comfortable Alone /Quirkyalone

I found myself in the presence of an elderly married woman, and I engaged her by asking a question that lay within me.

Elderly people have experienced the world before us and to learn from them, is always a blessing.

I shared my opinion with her…

“Do you hear that?”…

“Silence, the beautiful sound of silence.

Some people have a problem of not being able to stay single successfully, they need the constant presence of a partner.

Now I can’t shame them, because we are humans and we crave interaction we’re social beings by nature.

But then there are people like me who come in, who genuinely find themselves entertaining, whose minds engages in the most wonderful conversations with like minded individuals (or one minded in this case).

People like me who give the best relationship advice to friends because I’m the only one sane enough to avoid the entire ordeal.

How do you create room for another person? How do share your space with another person?

Because as beautiful as ‘finding someone to spend the rest of your life with’ sounds, it also sounds claustrophobic.

How do you do it? How do you breathe? How do you connect with yourself? How do you remember yourself as one person not “we” / “us”?

And I found the most beautiful answer I’ve ever heard, she said

“Love doesn’t choke, love creates room for yourself, love acknowledges unity and also entity.”

And on hearing her reply to me as her husband walked in he said to me, eyes fixed on her

“When you’re with your other half, you’d always feel more complete whenever they’re around”

To which I smiled.

Holding on to both, maybe, just maybe Love broadens your horizons while still holding on to yourself.

  1. Being single frees up your schedule and your mind, creating space to figure out who you want to be and ways to achieve that. There’s nobody else around you demanding your attention, so get out there and become that person. Attached people have a tendency to live in relationship bubbles.
